Following the upcoming season, Claire Foy is Queen no more.
Netflix biographical series The Crown, which focuses on Queen Elizabeth II, will have a new lead actress once the third season comes around. Foy has played the British monarch for two seasons; Olivia Colman will be wearing the crown for seasons 3 and 4.
Foy earned a Golden Globe for her performance and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy. Colman is also a Golden Globe winner, earning a win for her role in the mini-series The Night Manager.
The change up in cast was planned from the beginning so as to cast actors more in line with the ageing characters. It expected that season 3 will cover the Queen’s life from 1957 to 1964.
Foy will be back as Queen Elizabeth II in the upcoming second season, which will also see the return of Matt Smith (Prince Philip), Vanessa Kirby (Princess Margaret), Victoria Hamilton (the Queen Mother), and Jeremy Northam (Antony Eden). Among the new faces are Michael C. Hall (Dexter) as John F. Kennedy and Matthew Goode (Watchmen) as Lord Snowdon.
The Crown season 2 will hit Netflix on December 8.
