‘The Crown’ Season 5: First Images Unveil Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Dominic West as Prince Charles

Netflix has unveiled the first images from the upcoming fifth season of acclaimed royal family series The Crown.

Aussie star Elizabeth Debicki (Tenet, The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) can be seen as Princess Diana above. Debicki takes over the role from Emma Corrin, who played Lady Diana Spencer in season 4 and earned a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series for her portrayal.

As for whether season 5 will depict Princess Diana’s death, it’s unlikely. Debicki has signed up to play Diana in both season 5 and 6, the latter being the final season. Expect Diana’s tragic demise to play a key part in the final chapter.

Below you can take a look at Dominic West (The Affair, The Wire) as Prince Charles and Oscar nominee Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake, Harry Potter) as Queen Elizabeth II, respectively. Prince Charles was previously played by Josh O’Connor in seasons 3 and 4 of the series, while Queen Elizabeth was memorably played by Claire Foy and Olivia Colman, both of whom were also handed awards for their performances in the role.

The cast of s5 includes Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, James Murray as Prince Andrew, Johnny Lee Miller as John Major, and Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker.

No release date has yet been announced for The Crown season 5, expected to arrive sometime in 2022.
