Aussie Star Elizabeth Debicki Cast as Princess Diana in Netflix’s ‘The Crown’

Elizabeth Debicki has been cast as Princess Diana in Netflix‘s royal family drama series The Crown.

The France-born and Melbourne-raised star, whose credits include Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, The Great Gatsby, Widows and The Night Manager, will be playing the beloved figure in The Crown‘s fifth and sixth seasons. The series will be concluding with season six.

“Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many,” Debicki said in her statement. “It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”

Debicki will be continuing on the role from Emma Corrin (Pennyworth), who will be seen as Diana in her younger years in the upcoming fourth season. The rotating cast has seen Oscar winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite) take on the role of Queen Elizabeth, who was played by Claire Foy in the first two seasons and will be played by Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake) in the final two seasons. Seasons five and six will also star Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) as Princess Margaret and have Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones) taking over as Prince Philip.

Among what’s on the horizon for Debicki: Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated Tenet, the voice of Mopsy Rabbit in the delayed Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, and reprising her MCU role as Ayesha in James Gunn’s planned Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
