The trailer has been released for upcoming limited series The Girl from Plainville, with Elle Fanning starring as Michelle Carter, the key subject of the infamous and tragic “texting suicide case” that rocked the U.S.

For those that may not remember or were unaware, 18-year-old Conrad Roy III ended his own life in 2014 following a number of text messages from his then 17-year-old girlfriend, Michelle Carter, encouraging him to do so. The unfolding investigation and subsequent precedence-making trial shook up the United States, capturing wide attention until Carter was convicted in 2019.

This potentially controversial series is based on the Esquire article of the same name by Jesse Barron – a troubling, fascinating read that you can find in full right HERE – and comes from writers and executive producers Liz Hannah (The Post, Long Shot) and Patrick Macmanus (Dr. Death, Marco Polo). Fanning is also among the executive producers.

The cast includes Colton Ryan as Conrad “Coco” Roy III; Chloë Sevigny as Conrad’s mother, Lynn Roy; Cara Buono as Michelle’s mother, Gail Carter; Kai Lennox as Michelle’s dad, David Carter; Norbert Leo Butz as Conrad’s dad, Conrad “Co” Roy II; and Michael Mosley as Carter’s defense attorney, Joseph Cataldo.

The Girl from Plainville will premiere on Stan in Australia and Hulu in the U.S. on the same day – March 30th in Aus and March 29th in the U.S.
