Netflix has released a number of first-look images for its upcoming action-thriller The Gray Man, boasting a cast led by Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. The streaming giant has also announced the film’s release date: In theatres July 15 and on Netflix July 22.

Directed by Avengers: Endgame helmers Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, The Gray Man is based on the novel of the same name by Mark Greaney – the first book to feature CIA operative Court Gentry (played by Ryan Gosling in the film). Joe Russo also penned the screenplay with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The plot follows Gosling’s titular operative, who is also known as Sierra Six. Plucked from a federal penitentiary and recruited by his handler, Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), Gentry was once a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death. But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, hunted across the globe by the psychopathic Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a former cohort at the CIA, who will stop at nothing to take him out. Agent Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas) has his back. He’ll need it.

The cast also includes Jessica Henwick, Wagner Moura, Dhanush, Alfre Woodard, Regé-Jean Page, Julia Butters, Eme Ikwuakor, and Scott Haze.

It’s a BIG one for Netflix. Costing upwards of $US200 million, The Gray Man is Netflix’s most expensive movie thus far, with a final price tag that’s said to easily surpass the $US200 million the company forked out for Red Notice. Fingers crossed The Gray Man delivers on all fronts.
