‘The House with a Clock in Its Walls’ Trailer: Cate Blanchett & Jack Black in Eli Roth’s Family-Friendly Horror

Entertainment One

Entertainment One has dropped the first trailer for The House with a Clock in Its Walls, an upcoming fantasy-horror film starring Cate Blanchett and Jack Black.

Based on the classic children’s book written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey, the film follows a 10-year-old orphan boy (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle (Black) in a creepy house, one that happens to have a mysterious tick-tocking heart.

Interestingly, this marks the first family-friendly horror film from director Eli Roth, who’s known for gore-filled outings like Cabin Fever, Hostel and The Green Inferno. Roth’s more extreme stylings haven’t earned him as much recognition lately, but he may have found his new calling if this works out well. The first trailer below is promising, showcasing a nice sense of wonder and strong visuals, and having Blanchett and Black on board is quite a plus.

The House with a Clock in Its Walls, also starring Kyle MacLachlan, Colleen Camp, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Vanessa Anne Williams and Sunny Suljic, will arrive in Australia on September 20 and hits the U.S. on September 21.
