Geez, Netflix, you’re taking up all our time as it is.
Netflix has dropped a teaser trailer for The Rain, the streaming giant’s first Danish original series. The show is set six years after almost all the humans in Scandinavia are wiped out by a virus carried by the rain. We follow two Danish siblings that emerge from their bunker to find civilisation destroyed. They join a group of young survivors and make their way through Scandinavia, searching for signs of life.
The intriguing concept could make for a riveting post-apocalyptic series. The production looks slick – at least in the teaser, which hints at some potent, character-driven sci-fi. This may very well be another binge-worthy addition to the Watch List.
The Rain, starring Alba August (Reliance), Mikkel Boe Følsgaard (A Royal Affair), Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen (Tidsrejen), Lars Simonsen (The Bridge), Iben Hjejle (Dicte), Angela Bundalovic (Dark Horse), Sonny Lindberg (The Legacy), and Jessica Dinnage, among others, will arrive sometime in Autumn (ANZ) / Spring (USA).
Official synopsis for The Rain:
The world as we know it has ended. Six years after a brutal virus carried by the rain wiped out almost all humans in Scandinavia, two Danish siblings emerge from the safety of their bunker to find all remnants of civilisation gone. Soon they join a group of young survivors and together set out on a danger-filled quest through abandoned Scandinavia, searching for any sign of life.
Set free from their collective past and societal rules the group has the freedom to be who they want to be. In their struggle for survival, they discover that even in a post-apocalyptic world there’s still love, jealousy, coming of age, and many of the problems they thought they’d left behind with the disappearance of the world they once knew.
Who will you be when the rain comes?
