‘The Tourist’ Trailer: Jamie Dornan Loses His Memory in Australia’s Outback in Stan Series

Take a look at the trailer that’s been released for The Tourist, the upcoming Stan Original Series led by Jamie Dornan (Belfast, Fifty Shades of Grey).

The six-episode series has Dornan playing a character simply credited as ‘The Man’, a British guy who finds himself being chased through the Australian Outback by a massive truck. He crashes and wakes up in hospital suffering from amnesia, with no memory of who he is or why anyone would want him dead. While continuing to outrun those on his tail, he makes his way through the unforgiving landscape in search of answers.

The series comes from Emmy Award-winning writers Harry and Jack Williams, with credits including Fleabag (which had them as producers), The Missing, and Liar. The two also produce the series via their production company, Two Brothers Pictures, for the BBC, in association with Highview Productions, All3Media International, the South Australian Film Corporation, HBO Max, Stan and ZDF.

It’s a promising trailer, showing off what could be an engrossing binger, described by Stan as being packed with “shocking, surprising, funny and brutal turns.” Fingers crossed.

Also starring Danielle Macdonald (Unbelievable, Dumplin’, Patti Cake$), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Line of Duty, Roadkill), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Trapped, The Missing), Alex Dimitriades (The End, The Cry) and Damon Herriman (Mindhunter, Justified), The Tourist will premiere on Australian streaming service Stan on January 2nd, 2022. In the UK, the series will be streaming through BBC iPlayer from January 1st. HBO Max will have it in the U.S., although no U.S. release date has been announced as yet.

Official synopsis for The Tourist:

The Tourist sees Jamie Dornan (Belfast, The Fall) star as a British man (‘The Man’) who finds himself in the glowing red heart of the Australian outback, being pursued by a vast tank truck trying to drive him off the road. An epic cat and mouse chase unfolds and The Man later wakes in hospital, hurt, but somehow alive – except he has no idea who he is. With merciless figures from his past pursuing him, The Man’s search for answers propels him through the vast and unforgiving outback.

Full of shocking, surprising, funny and brutal turns, The Tourist is set in a world populated by enigmatic characters, with off-beat comedy punctuating high-stakes action. At its heart, however, is a story of self-discovery with a ticking timebomb underneath: as The Man starts to uncover the mystery of who he was, he’s also forced to ask who he is now – and fast. Will he unlock the secrets of his identity before those who are trying to kill him catch up with him?
