Netflix has released the official teaser trailer for upcoming anime feature The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, following Vesemir, the young Witcher that would go on to become a mentor to Geralt (played by Henry Cavill in Netflix’s live-action series).
The anime origin story tells of the swashbuckling young Witcher – voiced by Theo James (who was also the voice Hector in fantastic Netflix anime series Castlevania) – who escaped a life of poverty to slay monsters for coin. But when a strange new monster begins terrorising a politically-fraught kingdom, Vesemir finds himself on a frightening adventure that forces him to confront the demons of his past.
The feature comes from South Korean animation studio Studio Mir, who are also behind Netflix series Voltron: Legendary Defender, Dota: Dragon’s Blood and Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts.
Looks like a slick, energetic expansion to Netflix’s Witcher universe, which will also be expanding with a live-action prequel limited series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, set 1200 years before Geralt’s time to show the origin of the Witchers.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf will be streaming on Netflix from August 23rd.
