Netflix has released the official trailer for upcoming anime film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which expands the streamer’s Witcher universe by taking us back to the time of Geralt’s mentor.
It’s time to meet Vesemir (voiced by Theo James), a young witcher who escaped a life of poverty to slay monsters for coin. But when a strange new monster begins terrorising a politically-fraught kingdom, Vesemir finds himself on a frightening adventure that forces him to confront the demons of his past.
An exciting trailer below, showcasing bloody action and more slick animation from South Korean animation house Studio Mir, also behind Netflix animated series Voltron: Legendary Defender, Dota: Dragon’s Blood and Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts. It’s also going to offer up quite a bit more backstory to the world we saw Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia inhabit in the live-action series, such as showing us how these Witchers were created in the first place. Can’t wait.
The movie is directed by Kwang Il Han (The Boondocks), written by Beau DeMayo (who penned ep 3 of the live-action series and also worked on The CW series The Originals), and also features the voices of Lara Pulver, Graham McTavish, and Mary McDonnell, among others.
Watch out for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf to hit Netflix on August 23.
