The upcoming Fantastic Four film has finally cast its lead villain. Variety is reporting that Toby Kebbell, best known for his work in RocknRolla and Wrath of the Titans, is to play Victor von Doom, a.k.a. Dr. Doom. Kebbell beat out three other actors who were being eyed to play the villain, including Eddie Redmayne and Domhnall Gleeson.
The new Fantastic Four, being directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle), will star Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic, Michael B. Jordan as The Human Torch, Kate Mara as The Invisible Woman and Jamie Bell as The Thing. The casting of Kebbell locks in a new take that Variety describes as a “contemporary update,” which is to “focus on the characters as young men and women.”
There isn’t too much known about the plot of the film, but certain reports mention that the story will be based on the Ultimate Fantastic Four comic run, which saw the titular team as a younger group of characters.
Fox is pretty confident with what they’re developing, especially since The Fantastic Four 2 has already been locked in for release on July 14, 2017.
Kebbell is landing bigger projects. He’ll next be seen in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and will be starring in Duncan Jones’ Warcraft.
Josh Trank’s The Fantastic Four will be released in the States on June 19, 2015.
