Tomb Raider Reboot Being Planned

Variety has reported that there is a Tomb Raider reboot being planned. In terms of rebooting the classic video game character, Crystal Dynamics is working with GK Films to develop a film that will follow the “bold choices” taken by films like Batman Begins or Casino Royale. They plan to tell the story of a young Lara Croft, presumably to coincide with their video game reboot.

Darrell Gallagher, head of Crystal Dynamic, told Variety, “They (GK Films) are working from this new take that we’ve given them. It’s a good partnership. We’re seeing the challenges through the same lens.”

Now that Crystal Dynamic has given Lara Croft a brand new video game, producers are hoping to completely refresh the character’s appeal and bring new fans back to the table. Gallagher says that they are determined to bring new ideas to the reboot. “It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise,” Gallagher said. “We didn’t want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old ‘Tomb Raider’ films.”

Angelina Jolie played Lara Croft in two mildly entertaining films, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003).

It isn’t yet known who will direct the film or who will star as Lara Croft. Do you guys have any ideas?
