While we’re a little wary at the idea of continuing a masterful franchise that wrapped up its story in beautiful fashion, we can’t deny that we’re excited to be meeting up with Woody and Buzz again, especially with a story that’s full of potential.

Toy Story 4 has been lined up for U.S. release on June 16, 2017, and it’s going to be focusing on a character that was strangely missing in Toy Story 3: Bo Peep. Woody and Buzz will be heading out to find her in what Pixar’s John Lasseter is describing as a “special and emotional love story.”

Speaking at the D23 Expo, Lasseter, who co-directed the first two films and is co-directing the fourth alongside Josh Cooley, revealed a little about what we’re to expect.

“As we were looking around we came up with this idea because Bo Peep was not in Toy Story 3, and it actually worked beautifully into this,” Lasseter said.

“So Woody and Buzz light-year go out to find Bo Peep and bring her back, and it’s a very special and emotional love story. But it’s extremely funny too.”

Lasseter said Pixar is aiming for something “different from what you’ve seen before” with Toy Story 4, which is inspired by someone very close to his heart.

I’ve been very inspired by my wife Nancy‘s story in her life before I met her,” he said. “It’s an incredible story, and it’s been sort of a bit of an inspiration for this.”
