The first trailer has debuted for The Drop, a crime-drama starring Tom Hardy, James Gandolfini and Noomi Rapace. Directed by Michaël R. Roskam, who helmed the great Oscar-nominated Belgium film Bullhead, the film tells the story of a former criminal and bartender working at a bar that serves as a money drop for local gangsters. Things go downhill fast after the bar is robbed. This great-looking drama marks Gandolfini’s last film, and the trailer hints at what could be a downright fantastic performance. There’s a great sense of place here, and no wonder, since it’s written by Gone Baby Gone’s Dennis Lehane. Bullhead’s Matthias Schoenaerts also stars.
Official synopsis for The Drop:
THE DROP is a new crime drama from Michaël R. Roskam, the Academy Award-nominated director of BULLHEAD. Based on a screenplay from Dennis Lehane (MYSTIC RIVER, GONE BABY GONE), THE DROP follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters – “money drops” – in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood’s past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living – no matter the cost.
