Take a look at the official trailer Amazon Prime Video has released for Utopia, the upcoming remake of the acclaimed British black comedy-conspiracy thriller series of the same name that ran from 2013-14.
John Cusack (in his first regular television role), Rainn Wilson, Sasha Lane and Jessica Rothe are among the stars of the series, which tells of a comic book that, according to its fans, may hold hold the answers to saving the world. As a group attempts to unlock the hidden meanings behind the comic, they discover that there’s a much bigger conspiracy at play. Oh yeah, and as for the “timely” element: a big part of the plot deals with a pandemic that’s ravaging the world.
Gone Girl and Sharp Objects writer Gillian Flynn is behind this new Utopia, with creator of the original series Dennis Kelly on board as executive producer. It looks like there’s a lot going on here, as well as a dark comedy tone that can be a little bit of a challenge to nail – in particular if the viewer’s already inundated in pandemic fears and conspiracy theories. We’ll see.
The eight-episode series, also starring Farrah Mackenzie, Christopher Denham, Cory Michael Smith, Javon “Wanna” Walton, Ashleigh LaThrop and Dan Byrd, will be premiering on Amazon Prime Video on September 25th.
