Take a look at the trailer that Netflix has released for Vampire in the Garden, an upcoming anime series from Wit Studio, the Japanese animation house that gained notability for producing the first three seasons of anime hit Attack on Titan.

Whereas Attack on Titan depicted a world in which humans have built a wall to keep out deadly giants, Vampire in the Garden shows a world where humans in a small town have made a wall of light to protect them from the vampires that have taken over the world. We follow a character on each side: Momo, a young human girl living a repressed life and wishing humans could coexist with vampires, and Fine, a vampire queen who once loved humans. A fateful meeting soon finds them on a journey to rediscover Paradise, the place humans and vampires once lived together in harmony.

A potential hit here. Plenty of dark action and, especially, emotion teased in the trailer – this may be one to have tissues ready for. On the directing team here is Tetsuya Nishio, who worked as director on Attack on Titan, and Ryôtarô Makihara, director of 2015 anime film The Empire of Corpses and a storyboard artist on Attack on Titan.

Vampire in the Garden will be streaming on Netflix from May 16th.
