‘Velvet Buzzsaw’ Trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal & ‘Nightcrawler’ Director Reunite for Netflix Horror

Jake Gyllenhaal reunites with Nightcrawler filmmaker Dan Gilroy for this strange-looking, and very exciting, horror-mystery-comedy (?) film.

Netflix has unvieiled the first official trailer for Velvet Buzzsaw, which is set in the L.A. art world and finds a cast that includes Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Toni Colette and John Malkovich dealing with killer art… literally.

This could be a unique and highly satirical mash-up of horror and out-there dark humour, with a great cast and a bizarre plot that could be a blast if Gilroy goes all out – and it looks like he does. The trailer below is promising, even if it appears to show a tad too much. Maybe some of those deaths would have been best left as surprises. We’ll see!

Velvet Buzzsaw, also starring Zawe Ashton, Tom Sturridge, Natalia Dyer, Daveed Diggs, and Billy Magnussen, will be premiering at the Sundance Film Festival on January 27th before hitting Netflix on February 1st.

Netflix’s official logline for Velvet Buzzsaw:

Velvet Buzzsaw is a thriller set in the contemporary art world scene of Los Angeles where big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price when art collides with commerce.
