The first trailer has arrived for Viper Club, an upcoming YouTube Originals drama feature starring Susan Sarandon.
The Oscar winner plays Helen, a nurse whose war correspondent son is taken hostage by terrorists in Syria. Finding roadblocks at every turn, particularly by the US Government, Helen acquires the help of an activist (Edie Falco) and a covert group to attempt to free her son.
This small-looking production has a bit of a TV movie vibe, but it could work as an intimate character-driven drama thanks to Sarandon. Having Bomer and Falco also on board certainly can’t hurt either.
Viper Club, the sophomore effort for director and co-writer Maryam Keshavarz (Circumstance), will hit limited US cinemas on October 26.
Synopsis for Viper Club:
Helen (Academy Award-winner Susan Sarandon) is a veteran emergency room nurse facing another kind of crisis when her only son – a war correspondent on foreign assignment — is taken hostage by a terrorist organization. Initially (and somewhat naively) confident that the highest levels of her government will make her son’s safe return a priority, Helen soon becomes disillusioned by the state’s inaction and double-speak.
Isolated, frustrated, and alone, Helen finds a beacon of light in Charlotte (Edie Falco), an enigmatic and effective activist who represents a covert group with proven successes in bypassing governments to free prisoners. Helen invests her fervent hope in Charlotte’s refreshing pragmatism.
