The hype is building for The Walking Dead season 9, which may very well be the most eventful season yet.

A big 5-minute-plus trailer has arrived for the impending season, giving fans plenty to ruminate on prior to AMC’s October 7 premiere date. The trailer shows off what appears to have been a calm period for our gang and the others living in the Sanctuary, even with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) still wryly pointing out that Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) idealism is futile. He’s right, of course, as the walkers and the worst of human nature soon bring an end to the peace they had found.

We’ll be saying goodbye to both Rick and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) this season, see Jon Berthnal’s Shane return (maybe in a quick flashback/dream sequence?), and have Daryl (Norman Reedus) move up to the lead character. And who knows who else will be biting the dust before all is said and done. October 7, people.
