Well, this is a nice surprise.
20th Century Fox has gone ahead and dropped a 5-minute prologue sequence for Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien film, Alien: Covenant.
Directed by Luke Scott (Tony’s son and director of last year’s Morgan), this short film of sorts introduces us to the crew of the Covenant as they have their “last supper” before heading into cryosleep. It’s a great piece to reveal on the road to release, laying down some background character work before we go in.
Some great bits of foreshadowing are included, such as what could be behind James Franco’s Branson “feeling kind of queasy.” Also of note: Michael Fassbender’s android, Walter. Yep, that’s not David, who we met in Prometheus. As the original logline revealed, this crew will be discovering a dangerous world “whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic David.” Two Fassbenders? Hell to the yes.
Alien: Covenant, also starring Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England and Benjamin Rigby, arrives in Australia on May 18 and opens in the US on May 19.
The official prologue to Alien: Covenant introduces the crew of the mission as they gather for a final meal before entering cryosleep.
Set aboard the Covenant, a colonization ship on its way to a remote planet to form a new human settlement, the main crew (all couples) and their android, Walter, enjoy their final meal together before cryosleep.
Conceived by Ridley Scott and 3AM, directed by Luke Scott, and produced by RSA Films.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
