Around four and a half years since the character of Adam Warlock was teased at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we finally know who will be playing him in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
“Welcome to the Guardians family, Will Poulter,” Gunn tweeted. “He’s an amazing actor and wonderful guy.”
As you guys know I often strike down false rumors, so… um…

A GotG2 mid-credit sequence saw Ayesha (played by Elizabeth Debicki), leader of the Sovereign race, unveiling a birthing pod holding what she called “the next step in our evolution.” A being that’s “More powerful. More beautiful. More capable of destroying the Guardians of the Galaxy.” And in what was quite the reveal for Marvel comic fans: “I think I shall call him… Adam.”
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and later further developed by Roy Thomas and Jim Starlin, the character of Adam Warlock was first seen on the page in Fantastic Four issues #66–67 in 1967. The character’s original iteration saw him created at the hands of a group of researchers, the “Enclave,” keen on making the perfect human. Adam has evolved over the years in the comics, with an increase in power with each “resurrection.”
Deadline reports that Gunn and the Marvel executives had been casting for Warlock since August. A number of actors reportedly met with Gunn and co., although it was Poulter whose test ultimately impressed the most.
Production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to kick off next month.
Artist BossLogic shared an impression of Poulter as Adam Warlock, which Gunn retweeted:
