Warner Bros. has announced a release date for Winter’s Tale, the upcoming drama starring Colin Farrell, Russell Crowe, Jessica Brown Findlay, Will Smith and Jennifer Connelly. The film is set to be released in the U.S. on February 14, 2014.
Winter’s Tale is the first feature film to be directed by Akiva Goldsman, the screenwriter behind A Beautiful Mind, I, Robot, Cinderella Man, The Da Vinci Code and I Am Legend.
According to THR, the film will star “Colin Farrell as a thief named Peter Lake who falls in love with a dying girl played by Jessica Brown Findlay.”
IMDB‘s quick synopsis : “A fantasy story set in 19th Century and present-day Manhattan and revolves around a thief, a dying girl, and a flying white horse.”
Amazon‘s description of Mark Helprin’s novel, from which Goldsman’s screenplay is adapted, is as follows:
New York City is subsumed in arctic winds, dark nights, and white lights, its life unfolds, for it is an extraordinary hive of the imagination, the greatest house ever built, and nothing exists that can check its vitality. One night in winter, Peter Lake–orphan and master-mechanic, attempts to rob a fortress-like mansion on the Upper West Side.
Though he thinks the house is empty, the daughter of the house is home. Thus begins the love between Peter Lake, a middle-aged Irish burglar, and Beverly Penn, a young girl, who is dying.
Peter Lake, a simple, uneducated man, because of a love that, at first he does not fully understand, is driven to stop time and bring back the dead. His great struggle, in a city ever alight with its own energy and beseiged by unprecedented winters, is one of the most beautiful and extraordinary stories of American literature.
Sounds pretty promising. A mythical fantasy with a strong cast and an Oscar-winning screenwriter at the helm.
Goldsman is also producing with Marc Platt (Drive), Michael Tadross (Sherlock Holmes) and Tony Allard (Showtime’s The Baby Dance).
