‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Trailer: Gal Gadot Heads to the 80s and Chris Pine Returns in DC Sequel

Warner Bros.

Good things come to those who wait. The trailer has finally been released for Diana Prince’s next big-screen adventure, Wonder Woman 1984.

Exciting stuff ahead! Warner Bros. has forgone the teaser trailer and premiered a big official trailer at Brazil’s Comic Con Experience (CCXP 2019), and it’s now online for us all to salivate over. After battling it out in the First World War in the first film, the sequel finds the Amazonian heroine (Gal Gadot) in the ’80s, and yes, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) has returned.

It remains a mystery as to how exactly Trevor is back in the picture – and without ageing, too. But director Patty Jenkins, back at the helm after having directed the first film, told the crowd at CCXP that “it’s not a gimmick.”

“I can’t tell you [how he’s back], but here’s what I will say: We didn’t put Steve Trevor in this movie because we just wanted to put Steve Trevor in this movie,” Jenkins said.

“When we thought of the story for this film while we were making the first film, a eureka moment came and it couldn’t have been told without Chris Pine playing Steve Trevor. So I promise you it’s not a gimmick, it’s integral to the story.”

The trailer also gives us a look at two of the film’s key villains: Barbara Minerva aka Cheetah, played by Kristen Wiig, and Max Lord, played by Pedro Pascal. It looks like Barbara will be having quite the transformation, starting off as Diana’s good friend before going dark.

So far, so very good. Wonder Woman 1984 will be in cinemas around Australia on June 4 and opens in the US on June 5, 2020.
